This year, we acknowledge the special talents of Judith Mercier who, sadly, passed away in February 2017. Judith loved to participate in the BWG Studio Art Tour and in honor of her talents, her family has chosen to show her art again this year. It will be on display and for sale at the Bradford Public Library. All proceeds will be donated to a future youth art event in memory of her love and passion for her craft. This fall, Judith’s family will be establishing a special award for the Jewellery and Metals program at Georgian College in her name.
Judith Mercier was a jewellery designer specializing in one-of-a-kind jewellery. She graduated with honors from Georgian College, Jewellery and Metals program in 2009 and continued her education at Georgian College in the Goldsmithing program in 2010. Judith received awards from Barrie Gem and Mineral Club, the Wittnauer Award of Excellence and Barrie Professional Women’s Club Award.
Her love of lapidary was evident and incorporated hand cut semi-precious stones in most of her designs. Judith explored design techniques which enhanced her jewellery and believed that the process of making jewellery was an essential part of the end product. Much time, thought and care went into the creation of each piece.
